Carol Duffy Obituary

Carol Ann (Calvert) Duffy, 68, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born April 4, 1952, in Hannibal to Weldon and LaVerne (Thomas) Calvert, she grew up on the family farm where many friends came to help bale hay, enjoy tractor hay rides and other events. The farm was where her heart rested.

Carol graduated from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. With an extensive career in nursing, her true nursing love was as a Home Health nurse. She worked for Hannibal Regional Hospital/Marion County Health Department and, later, with Ralls County Home Health Agency where she retired after many years.

She married John Duffy in 1977 and later divorced. He preceded her in death in 2005.

Carol provided a loving home for her children. Additionally, she was a safe nest for all the neighborhood kids and friends of her children. She often spent hours in conversation with them or simply listening. She inherited incredible cooking skills and a nurturing spirit from her mother that were enjoyed by all.

After committing her life to Christ, she faithfully sought His guidance and shared His grace to her children and others. Her life's goal was to be remembered for loving the Lord and showing His love to others. In all of this, she wanted people to know Christ and all He has done for her over the years.

Preceding her in death were her mother in 2005; infant sister, Helen Ann; sister, Ruth Chambers in 2011; and sister-in-law, Beverly Calvert in 2019.

Carol is survived by her children: Bo Duffy (Nancy) and children Emma, Charlie, John and Grant of Kansas City, Mo.; Leah Orcutt (Steven) and children Nolan, Levi and Kaden of Amarillo, Tx.; Benjamin Duffy of Amarillo, Texas.; and Elise Herring (Jacob) and children Annie, Jack, Maggie and Barrett of Amarillo, Texas; her father, Weldon Calvert of Quincy, Ill.; siblings: Tom Calvert of Hannibal, brother-in-law, Trent Chambers of St. Louis, Mo., Betty Anders (Kerry) of Quincy, Il., Jack Calvert (Alisha) of St. Louis, Mo. and Jill Snare (Tim) of St. Louis, Mo. Additionally, numerous nieces, nephews and their families survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal with Pastor Jeff Anderson officiating. A graveside service will follow at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Pallbearers are Shaun Bruening, Tony George, Mike Lambing, Patrick Anders, Blake Calvert, Jared Anders, Connor Chambers and Cal Snare.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday evening, Aug. 14, 2020, at Calvary Baptist Church.
