Richard Pettitt Obituary

Richard V. Pettitt, age 78, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 9:16 pm Thursday, May 11, 2023, at his home, surrounded by those he loved. 

A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday May 17, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Grand View Burial Park. 

Richard was born on December 22, 1944, in Hannibal, Missouri the son of Donald and Cleo (Cooley) Pettitt.

Survivors include: Four Sisters, Christina L Nelson (Gary) of New London, MO, Waunetta Webb, Carolyn Ross, Kathy Hill (Kevin) of Hannibal; Brother, Gerald Pettitt (Charlotte); Two Daughters, Maria Mundle (Blake), Pamela Belger; Two Grandsons, Cody Mundle, Beau Belger (Natalie); Granddaughter, Abbey Belger; and Great-grandson, Remington Belger; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald L Pettitt; . 

Richard graduated from Hannibal High School. In high school, as a freshman, Richard set a new school record in the pole vault which stood for several years. In addition to track, he was also a member of the basketball team. 

Professionally Richard worked  for American Cyanamid as the youngest ever control room operator and as a fire chief.

Richard was an avid hunter of deer, mushrooms and birds with his faithful dog Jade. In his younger years he also enjoyed to fish. Like most young men he started out his working life  as a paper boy then moved his way up to Piper's Service Station, Luecke Maytag, and then found his niche at Cyanamid. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the American Cancer Association, in care of Grand View Funeral Home.
