Gilbert L Moss

Gilbert L Moss, age 83, of Monroe City, MO passed away at 6:35 pm Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, September 22, 2023 at Grand View Funeral Home. Rev. Jason W Young will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
A visitation celebrating Gilbert's life will be held at 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Friday September 22, 2023 at the Grand View Funeral Home.
Gilbert was born on June 21, 1940, in Hannibal, MO the son of Gilbert and Alta (McClintock) Moss. He was known to his friends and family affectionately as GL.
He was united in marriage to Sandra Moss on January 6, 1962 in West Ely, MO.
He is survived by his two sons, Curtis Moss of Villa Ridge, MO, and Eric Moss (Donna) of House Springs, MO; a grandson, Donald Olson; a granddaughter, Jessica Olson; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Alta; his wife, Sandra; and a sister, Amelia McKenzie.
Gilbert graduated from Monroe City High School and went on to further his education at Truman State University.
Professionally, Gilbert was a business owner, owning a printing company in Union, MO, but his true love was farming, which he did full-time on the family farm in Monroe City for the past 20 years.
Gilbert was a Christian and Baptist by faith.
Gilbert always had a story to tell, and sometimes his stories could seem quite tall and hard to believe, but they always were found to be true. Gilbert was very athletic and played baseball in high school and college. He also played basketball, and even helped coach basketball when he was in high school for Monroe City high school girls basketball team. He loved watching Cardinals baseball. Gilbert knew everybody and was an instant friend to everyone he met. He was an avid hunter and had many mounts showcasing his successes. When the love of his life, Sandra, passed, Gilbert took upon himself the roles of both mother and father, which he fulfilled wonderfully. He did everything he could for his sons, working to ensure that they had everything they needed to grow up and be successful. He was an amazing father figure who was deeply committed to his family.
