Obituary

 

David E. Corkern, age 72, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 3:21 am Saturday, November 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. 
 
Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Friday, November 18, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church.  Bro. Jeff Anderson will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Grand View Burial Park.
 
Visitation celebrating David's life will be held 9:00 am until the time of the service Friday at Calvary Baptist Church.
 
The family is being served by the Grand View Funeral Home & Burial Park of Hannibal.
 
David was born on February 28, 1950, in Bogalusa, LA the son of Wilton Claude and Ruth (Tynes) Corkern, Sr.
 
He was united in marriage to Mary Jess Sims on December 30, 1972, in Mer Rouge, LA.
 
Survivors include his wife, Jess Corkern of the home; daughters, Jessica Woodworth (Oran) of O'Fallon, MO and Jana Gosney (Caleb) of Hannibal, MO; brother, Wilton Claude Corkern, Jr of Alexandria, VA; sister, Anne Devillier (Reggie) of Carencro, LA; grandchildren, Bethany Kay, Abigail Jess, Matthias David, Gabriel Oran, Jaren Caleb, Athan Jay and Lukas John; nieces, Molly, Sarah, Jenny, Ellie, Maggie and Susan; and nephew, Hubert; Aunt Evelyn Magee and numerous cousins.
 
In addition to his parents, Mr. Corkern was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Bruce Batte Corkern.
 
David graduated from Franklinton High School in the class of 1968 in Franklinton, LA.  He went on to further his education at LSU earning a master’s degree of Music Education.  While attending LSU, David was a member of the LSU Tiger Band, Theta Xi Fraternity and Campus Crusade for Christ. He also attended Southwestern Theological Seminary.
 
Mr. Corkern was a Minister of Music for over thirty years and was a Music Professor at HLGU for seventeen years before retirement.
 
David was a very talented musician, trumpeter, and published composer.  He met his wife of forty-nine plus years while singing in the Foundation Singers. He played the trumpet faithfully in the Calvary Baptist Church Orchestra, participated in several Hannibal High School and HLGU musicals, was the orchestra conductor for Sierra College in Grass Valley, CA and was a member of the Quincy Concert Band.
 
Mr. Corkern loved his family.  He found great joy in being a husband, father and grandfather. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and he lived his life to point others to the Lord.
 
David was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as an Elder.
 
Pallbearers will be David Colborn, Don Colborn, Joel Booth, Dave Dexheimer, Brian Gosney, Nathan Hammock, Terry Hammock and Kurtis Sanders.
 
Honorary pallbearers will be Oran Woodworth, Caleb Gosney, Bethany Woodworth, Abigail Woodworth, Gabriel Woodworth, Matthias Gosney, Jaren Gosney, Athan Gosney and Lukas Gosney.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund at Calvary Baptist Church, in care of the Grand View Funeral Home.
