The family is being served by the Grand View Funeral Home of Hannibal.
Wilma was born on September 8, 1949, in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Melvin Berry and Nan (McArthur) (Berry) Davis. She was united in marriage to James E. Hammock on September 6, 1969, in Hannibal, MO.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Hammock of Hannibal; her sons Bryan Hammock (JaKay) of Hannibal, MO, Brad Hammock (Emily) of Center, MO, and Joshua Hammock (Katie) of Hannibal, MO; and a cherished circle of grandchildren, Kaylee, Abigail, Alyssa, Gabriel Hammock, and Jenna Ebers. Her close-knit family circle is further enriched by her sisters, Linda Smith, Laura Berry and Janet Hinds (Larry); brother-in-law, Scott Yargus, and several beloved nieces, nephews, along with great nieces and nephews who carry forward her memory with affection.
Wilma’s journey on earth was also marked by the memory of those who preceded her: her parents, Melvin Berry and Nan (McArthur) (Berry) Davis; stepfather, Henry Davis; her sisters Patsy Johnson and Donna C. Yargus, and half-brothers Larry Berry, Melvin Berry, and John Bunn, Sr. Their legacy, like hers, remains in the fabric of the lives she touched.
A graduate of Hannibal High School’s class of 1967, Wilma’s journey was marked by steadfast commitment and vibrant spirit. Over the years, she wore many hats with exemplary poise-working as a waitress, a customer service representative at Swiss Colony, and delighting many with her extraordinary talent as a cake baker and decorator. Her creations were not merely confections, but edible works of art that brought joy to countless weddings, birthdays, holidays, and cherished family events. Family gatherings, often hosted by Wilma herself, were filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable aroma of her culinary prowess, forever imprinting joyous memories upon all who attended.
Wilma's passions extended beyond the kitchen to her love of crafting things with her hands such as crocheting, making ornaments and decorations for all to enjoy. What delighted her the most was the precious moments spent with her grandchildren, whom she so adored. Her gentle, caring nature and joyful enthusiasm for life made her presence a soothing balm for all who knew her. She treasured her multiple daily cups of coffee, relished the days out on the town with her beloved sisters, Linda, Laura, and Janet and found joy in shared moments of pampering and dining, or merely playing dice games at home, embodying the true spirit of sisterhood.
A pillar of faith, Mrs. Hammock was a member of Providence Baptist Church during much of her life and had most recently been attending Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal. Those who knew her recall a loving and caring lady whose faith infused every aspect of her life and whose spirit illustrated the depth of her devotion.
Wilma’s most heartfelt accomplishments include her selfless decision to become an organ and tissue donor. Through this profound gift, she enabled a liver transplant that would grant life anew to another, and gifted the miracle of sight to two other people with the donation of corneas, and all the while her donation of tissue sustained and improved the lives of numerous others. In this gift, her love and generosity will endure far beyond her earthly presence.
The family would like to sincerely thank all who cared for Wilma during her journey over the past month, from Hannibal Regional Hospital ICU, Landmark Hospital and Boone County Hospital ICU in Columbia, MO and Midwest Transplant Network.
Pallbearers will be Buck McAfee, Ryan Hinds, Chad Kistler, Adam Voepel, Mike Miller, Hayes Shelley and Darren Johnson.
