William J. Garner, 81, of Hannibal, MO, died at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Luther Manor, in Hannibal, MO.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Reverend Robert Axton will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hydesburg Cemetery, in Hannibal.
William was born on March 6, 1934, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Harry H. and Alice Marie Fitzpatrick Garner. He married Georgia E. Long, who preceded him in death.
His parents; one brother, Harry D. Garner; and a son, William Garner Jr., also preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Ira D. Garner of Shelbyville, MO and Michael W. (Denise) Garner of Whitehall, NY; two daughters, Patricia (Rocky) Shrum of Rensselaer, MO and Sandra K. (Bryan) Shannon of Palmyra, MO; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Steven Garner, Rodney Shrum, Robert Shrum, Canaan Morgan, Danielle Shrum and Richard Conley II.
William had been a member of the Palmyra American Legion Post 174. He served in The Nike-Hercules Missile Battery in the states and served a tour in Germany during the Korean conflict and the beginning of the Vietnam War He was awarded the National Defense service medal twice, and the Army of Occupation Medal for his duty in Germany.
William will be sadly missed by family and friends
