Vernon Fillmore Harris

Vernon Fillmore Harris, age 84, died July 6, 2020. He had resided at Delmar Gardens O'Fallon since October 2017. Vernon was born August 31, 1935, in Jerseyville, IL. He married Alice Faye Harris (nee Blair) on April 23, 1960.
Vernon had the gift of excelling at automobile mechanics. He could listen to an engine and diagnose the problem without fail. He also enjoyed woodworking. He loved spending time with his family, going on vacations, camping, and fishing.
In September 2017, Vernon went to Nashville and visited many of the country music museums. His passion for country music, which he loved listening to, was mostly undiscovered until his later years when he educated himself by reading biographies of celebrities and learning how to play guitar through private lessons.
Vernon is survived by his seven children, Kathy (Jim) Casady of Grand Meadow, MN, Sandy Harris (Clarke Tilton) of St. Charles, MO, Kevin (Angie) Harris of St. Paul, MO, Karla Harris of Pensacola, FL, Kursula Harris of Ayden, NC, Kurtis (Leslie) Harris of Kearney, MO, and Kimberly Harris (Richard Loos) of Wentzville, MO. He is also survived by three brothers, Harvey, Michael and Cyrus; one sister, Ruth Ann Waite; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren with one expected yet this year. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his sister Betty Kratz; his brothers James and Nicholas; and his grandson, Kristopher.
Graveside services will be held at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020.
