Melvin Eugene Phillips, 91, of Washington, MO, died at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at his home in Washington, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Milton Baumgardner will officiate. Burial will follow at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Melvin was born on February 18, 1925, in Hannibal, MO, the son of William and Ethel Crouse Phillips. He married Mary Lou Roan in May 1952 in Hannibal, and she survives.
His parents and a brother, Harold Phillips preceded him in death.
He is survived by one son; Jeff (Doreen) Phillips; three daughters, Marta Alumbaugh, Carol (Earl) Sandroff and Nisa (Frank) Soellner; eight grandchildren, Melissa Fittipaldi, Marcy Duncan, Jake Voyles, Brittany Voyles, Corbin Voyles, Alex Sandroff, Alyssa Sandroff and Kate Soellner; five great grandchildren, Emilia Fittipaldi, Lexyi Fittipaldi, Kyra Duncan, Ava Voyles and Olivia Voyles.
Melvin attended the St. Clair Methodist church and held the 50 year pin for his Masonic membership. He worked for 38 years with Southwestern Bell and was a member of the Southwestern Bell Pioneers. He was a charter member of the Elks Club in St. Clair and a Lions club member. But most of all he was a devout Cardinal's fan.
