Jane Anne Harbourn (Lyons), 75, of Barry, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. She was born on July 4, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the beloved daughter of Harry and Eileen Lyons.
Jane was a graduate of Garrison High School, Class of 1968. Throughout her life, she was known for her quiet strength, kind heart, and deep love for her family. She spent many years in Quincy, Illinois, before her life’s journey carried her to California, Guatemala, and Texas. While living in Guatemala, Jane spent more than ten years managing a small resort in Rio Dulce, an experience that reflected her adventurous spirit and love for nature. In time, she returned home to Illinois and made her final residence in Barry.
Jane had a gentle and creative soul. She found joy and comfort in the simple pleasures of life—flowers and plants, sewing and quilting, drawing, reading, and especially being near the water. Whether she was tending a garden, creating something by hand, or sitting quietly by the shoreline, she found peace in the beauty around her.
Jane was married to Michael Jacobsen and later to Charles Harbourn; both marriages ended in divorce. In her final year, Charles offered her companionship, care, and friendship, a kindness that meant a great deal to her and her family.
She was a devoted mother to Erich Jacobsen, Dain Jacobsen, and Jaime Schaeffer (Harbourn). In 1998, Jane endured the heartbreaking loss of her son, Dain, a sorrow she carried in her heart always.
Jane is lovingly remembered by her son, Erich Jacobsen, and his wife, Michelle, and their children, Elle, Ava, Liam, and Isaac; her daughter, Jaime Schaeffer, and her husband, George, and their children, Austin, Ashton, and Eli; and her great-grandson, Rhodes Schaeffer, son of Austin and Rachel Borg. She is also survived by her siblings, Roger Lyons (Linda) and Karen Brunssen (Gaylan), along with many nieces and nephews who cherished her. Jane also held lasting affection for her former stepchildren, who remained close in her thoughts over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Lyons and Eileen Johnson Lyons; her son, Dain Jacobsen; her grandson, Alex: her brother, Loren “Butch” Lyons; and her sister, Sharon Rideneour.
In keeping with Jane’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. A celebration of her life will take place this summer, with details to be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to The Jed Foundation, in support of mental health and suicide prevention.
Jane will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort in the belief that she is now at peace, reunited in heaven with her loved ones that passed before her.
