Charles "Bud" Monroe, age 90, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 1:38 am Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at his home with the family that he loved so dearly by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Grand View Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Burkey will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by Emmett J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will follow in the Grand View Burial Park.
A visitation celebrating Bud's life will be held 10:00 am until time of the service, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Grand View Funeral Home.
Charles, or "Bud" as he was affectionately known, was born on November 14, 1934, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Russell and Mary Catharine (Blakeslee) Monroe.
Bud was united in marriage to Linda (Jones) Monroe on February 14, 1975 in Hannibal.
He is survived by his Wife, Linda Monroe of Hannibal. Two Daughters, Jenny Haught (Shawn) of Hannibal, MO, Joni Hagan (Tim) of Hannibal, MO; Three Sons, Matt Monroe of Hannibal, MO, Tony Berry (Loretta) of Gillett, AR, David Berry of Columbia, MO; Eight Granddaughters, Skylar Godard (Jaxin), Katie Dittamore (Chris), Ashley Monroe, Daitre Matthes, Kobi Blair (Ryan), Laci Heller (Jared), Tori Davenport (Josh), Marsha Sullivan (Walt); Six Grandsons, Sam Hagan (Gabby), Eric Hagan (Chrissy), Jeremy Berry (Brandy), Luke Chancellor (Chandel), Jacob Chancellor (Heather), David Manning Berry: 30 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Mary Catharine; Brother, Jim Monroe; Two Daughters, Melody Kurfman, Carol Chancellor; mother & father in law, Murl & Vadis Jones; and daughter-in-law Lori Monroe.
Bud graduated from Hannibal High school and went on to serve his country in the Korean War with the United States Army as a medic and ambulance driver.
Professionally Bud worked in his parents' grocery store (Southside Market), as an airplane mechanic, meat cutter, MATCO Tools, as a school bus driver, and as the Transportation Coordinator for Mark Twain Behavioral Health. After retiring from MTBH, he and Linda travelled the US in their camper, which was a dream of his. Later he and his wife Linda were fee booth attendants at Ray Behrens Campground at Mark Twain Lake.
Bud possessed a warm personality that was characterized by his loving, kind, patient, and compassionate lifestyle. He was exceedingly talkative, with an infectious enthusiasm for storytelling. The memories he created were rooted in the simple joys of life—4th of July celebrations by the river, fishing trips, fun filled boating adventures with family, and camping. Bud had an undeniable penchant for sweet treats, donuts ranking among his favorites. There was not a sweet treat that he didn't like.
His marriage to Linda was one of the proudest accomplishments he cherished, a partnership that flourished over the years and demonstrated unwavering support and love. Together, they raised a vibrant family, emphasizing the importance of togetherness and unconditional affection.
