Carolyn Ann Schrader, a valued member and treasure of her community, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of warmth. She was born on November 1, 1942, in picturesque Hannibal, MO. By her own account, she led a fully, happy life.

She was preceded in death by husband Lester Joseph Schrader in August 2005, to whom she was a dedicated and devoted wife, as well as by parents Ernest Nelson Harlow and Virginia May (Evans) Harlow and siblings Virginia Frances Roy, Norman Lee Harlow, Sharon K. Farris, Mary Imogene Morehead, John Nelson Harlow, and Elmer Glenn Harlow.

She is survived by her adoring only child, Kyle Joseph Schrader of St. Louis MO, to whom she showed constant love and support, and in whom she always had unwavering faith. He carries forward her spirit and the love she instilled in him. The memories they shared will forever echo in his heart, a testament to the strong bond they bred in the quiet moments of lives intertwined.

She also has several surviving extended family members, many of whom were always there for her, and checked on her frequently, and are now suffering from this great loss.

She loved all of her family, and deeply missed her parents and siblings who preceded her. She was the final sibling to pass, and will now be able to reunite with them and her mom and dad.

She was close friends with many of her neighbors, who thought the world of her and visited with her and helped her often.

Similarly, she had several close friendships locally, in St. Charles, MO, and elsewhere that she valued immensely.

Although she lived in St. Charles from the time of her marriage until shortly after the birth of her son, as a religious person, she was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of New London.

She lived a life of simplicity, and found beauty in the little things. With a passion for flowers, she nurtured her plants as meticulously as she nurtured her family, finding joy in the blossoms that brightened her days.

She loved all things Mizzou and was a devoted fan of its sports teams before and especially after her son attended there.

Her favorite movie was The Sound of Music. Her favorite song was “You Raise Me Up,” which resonated deeply with her, embodying the inspiration she imparted to all who knew her.

As we remember Carolyn, let us cherish the lessons and values she taught us about love, care, and the beauty of modest beginnings. Though she may have departed from our sight, her spirit continues to inspire all of us who were fortunate enough to know her.

There will be a small, private service. Donations she would encourage include the Ralls County Food Pantry (Laura Hummel, 47074 Hwy CC, Center MO 63436) and the Ralls County Public Library.
