Leota Hines Obituary

Leota Jeanne Hines, 78, of Newberg, OR, went to be with her Lord at 1:09 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Providence Hospital in Newberg, OR.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck, MN, with Pastor Dwight Warden officiating. Private inurnment for Roger and Leota Hines will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.

Leota was born on January 24, 1940, in Funkley, MN, the daughter of Leon and Genevieve Pahkamaa Dexter. She was married to Roger Hines at the Lutheran Church in Hines, MN on August 5th 1961. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2012.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Ernestine Pries, Dorothy Crittenden, Erlys Conklin, LaVona Lockridge, Darlene Sizemore, and Marjorie Lee Fryhover; four brothers, Virgil and Mervin Dexter, and Donald and Bruce Wooden.

She is survived by four sons, Philip C. ( Christy) Hines of Kansas City, MO, Nathan W. (Kris) Hines of Portland, OR, Joshua Hines of San Angelo, TX, and Jeremy Hines of Hillsboro, OR; three daughters, Lynette (Eric) Sturgis of Salem, OR, Leanne (Andrew) Baker of Newberg, OR, and Angelisa Hines of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Joyce (Vic) Evans and Dianne (Patrick) Sullivan: two brothers, Jim (Sue) Dexter and Leon R. (Shelly) Dexter, Jr.; 12 grandchildren, Jenae, Randy, Hannah, Luke, Erinn, Brenna, Maddie, Kady, Leah, Jack, Asher and Kira; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Leota graduated from Pillsbury Conservative Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, MN. She then served alongside her husband, pastorates in Minneapolis, MN, (Hope Baptist), Portland OR, (Lents Baptist) and Cooper Landing, AK (Kenai Lake Baptist). She and her family also served from 1984 to 1993 as missionaries in the Philippine Islands. She and Roger were also proprietors of the Mutiny Bay Sporting Goods store on Whidbey Island, WA from 1993 to 1997.

Leota was a devoted wife, pastor's wife, mother and grandmother who loved her Lord. She was passionate about her family, prayer, reaching the lost, and encouraging others. In recent years she communicated with hundreds through letters, cards and social media.
