James Zinner Obituary
James J. Zinner, 93, formerly of Hannibal, MO, died on December 28, 2018, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Funeral service will be January 7, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor John R. Hembree officiating.
James was born on December 9, 1925, in Robertsdale, AL, the son of Charles James and Hedwica Shroll Zinner. He married Ruth E. Whittington on June 15, 1951, and she survives.
His parents; two brothers, Charles F. Zinner, and John R. Zinner; and a sister, Lillian Vaughn, preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, James J. Zinner, Jr, Charles E. (Julie) Zinner, Carl E. (Donna) Zinner; a brother, Stanley (Charlotte) Zinner; three grandchildren, Joshua C. (Kristin) Zinner and Jenifer (Matthew) Cohoon, Carla (Lukas) Lotz; and six great grandchildren.
James was a member of the First Assembly of God church in Hannibal. He served as president of the Downtown Business Association and the Huck Finn Merchants Association. In 1965 he began working retail as a store manager until his retirement in 2005. Retail stores he worked in include Robert Hall, P N Hirsch and Dollar General.
