Richard Hamm Obituary

Richard R. Hamm, 94, blessed by the Lord's saving grace for eternal life, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 in Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, MO. He was born October 1, 1923 in Fulton, Missouri, to Terrence and Pearl Settles Hamm. He graduated from Center (MO) High School and attended Northeast Missouri Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. He was united in marriage to Mildred Curtis on June 4, 1944.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, his twin sister Frances Keithly, and his two brothers, Jim and George. Surviving are his two daughters, Marilyn Sublette and her husband Roger of Hannibal, MO, and Iris Phillips and her husband, Gene of Kahoka, MO; 11 grandchildren, Todd and Kate Sublette of Hannibal, MO, Cammie Sublette and husband Len Baledge of Prairie Grove, AR, Michelle and Daniel Boatman of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Wynnette and Iain Beardsley of St Louis, MO, Calesse and Brent McKinney of Kahoka, MO, and Nicole and Zac Hufty of Houston, TX; 24 great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Marie Hamm of Overland Park, KS.
During his lifetime he had worked at Dura Steele Defense Factory, Henn Electric Appliance/Refrigeration; Palmyra Appliance Store; and Missouri Electric Coop in Palmyra for 32 years. He had served as President of the Members Service Advisory Group for three years. He also served as treasurer on the Palmyra School Board for several years.
He enjoyed playing the organ, dancing, and playing cards with his friends as well as listening to the Cardinal baseball games.
Richard's life was a testament to his love for Jesus and his family. He attended First Baptist Church in Palmyra for many years where he was a Sunday School teacher and sang tenor in the choir. After moving to Hannibal, he and his wife became active members of Calvary Baptist Church where he continued to minister as a deacon for a total of 58 years.
Even though legally blind, he still faithfully served at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a "Prayer Warrior" for all those he loved and came into contact with. His legacy lives on through the faith of his family and the impact he had on all who were privileged to know him. Richard's desire was for others to know Christ as their personal Savior because "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, located on West Ely Rd, in Hannibal, with Rev. Jeff Anderson officiating.
