Janie Dye Obituary

Janie Lou Dye, 86, of Hannibal, died on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, after a brief illness.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Janie will be buried at the Grand View Burial Park.
Janie was born in Perry, Mo., on July 15, 1929, the fourth and youngest daughter of Roy and Grace Jennings, both of whom predeceased her. The Jennings family moved to Shelbyville, Mo., when Janie was in high school. Waiting for the school bus one morning, she met her future husband, Herb Dye. The high school sweethearts were married on September 1, 1947.
When Herb enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951, Herb and Janie moved to Sacramento, California, where their daughter Susan was born, and then to Rapid City, South Dakota. Upon Herb's discharge, they returned to northeast Missouri and made their home in Hannibal, where their sons Steven and William (Bill) were born.
Janie was for many years the library clerk at Mark Twain Elementary School. Former students still remember fondly her love for books and her reading aloud to them.
Two years after Herb passed away in 2010, Janie moved from Hannibal to Shelbina Villa, an assisted living community in Shelbina, Mo. In the last few years, her greatest pleasures were her family and friends, her books, and her iPad, which kept her connected to the outside world.
Janie is survived by her three children, Susan Beebe and husband Steven, of San Marcos, Tx.; Steven Dye and wife Tammera, of Chillicothe, Mo.; and Bill Dye of Hannibal. She is also survived by six grandsons: Mark Beebe, Matthew Beebe, Brian Dye, Brice Dye, Luke Dye, and Aaron Dye; two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; a sister, Lyndell Dodge, of Shelbina, Mo.; and a large extended family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Janie's grandsons.
To honor Janie's lifelong love of books and reading, her family suggests memorial contributions to Friends of the Hannibal Free Public Library, 200 S. 5th Street, Hannibal, Mo. 63401.
